Why does chronic pain seem to run in families? That's the question two researchers asked themselves, spurring a recent report in the journal PAIN. Although many studies have reported that children of parents suffering from chronic pain are more likely to develop pain themselves (and the negative mental and physical health outcomes that accompany it), the reasons as to why this occurs aren’t entirely understood. So in their report, [1] the two researchers put forth a conceptual model exploring possible reasons for this connection, which could help address – or even prevent – the transmission of chronic pain to the next generation.
