But what about the people who are in pain and are taking opioids daily to manage it - what is their perspective on utilizing opioids for pain? Specifically, how helpful do they find opioids in treating their pain – and what drawbacks are they seeing from prolonged use? A new study presented at the America Society of Anesthesiologists’ annual meeting sought the answers to these crucial questions.

MAPS’ Medication Management Program

Medical Advanced Pain Specialists (MAPS) is currently one of the increasing number of organizations nationally working to lower the number of opioids prescribed. In doing this, we hope to prevent as many opioid-related deaths as possible. MAPS’ efforts in this matter align well with the CDC, whose recent  Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain states, “Patients with pain should receive treatment that provides the greatest benefits relative to risks.”[1]
